I got orders today for overseas and I need to extend/reenlist to accept them.

I have no intention of doing so.

The problem is, I have not made my intention to separate from the Air Force known to leadership. For reasons I do not understand, they assume I am staying in. They were excited that I made staff, and keep telling me what a good thing these orders are for my career. I keep nodding and agreeing but in the back of my head I am in a panic.

For many reasons, I cannot go overseas right now. It amounts to personal/family reasons, and I recognize that my unwillingness to move makes me incompatible with military life and the responsible thing to do is separate.

I know once I decline retainability, I will be on that path. As much as I understand, this will mandate my separation at my ETS. I also understand someone else will have to take my orders (I think that's how it works?)

What should I expect. I am afraid of letting everyone down, I know it sounds stupid. But this is going to seem way out in left field to a LOT of my chain. Not that it should bother them too bad, since I'd be leaving either way, but I can't help but feel they are going to be mad.

Is there anything I should watch out for? Are they going to try to make the rest of my time here miserable? Will they simply write me off? Can I possibly do Palace Chase after declining orders?

Also, I have not pushed the button in vMPF 'request to separate from active duty' yet. Should I go ahead and press that now? Does it actually matter how far out from ETS you are when you press it? What happens once I press it? Does my outprocessing start?

ETS is a tiny program which allows you to run any other application under the Windows Local System account.

So what? The System account has full access to most file and Registry keys, many more than the Administrator account. If you need to remove a Registry key, say, but get an 'Error deleting..' message, then using the System account instead may help.

(You should also keep in mind that deleting system files or Registry keys can be very dangerous, and may cripple your PC. Are you sure you want to do this? If yes, then carry on, but don't blame us if it goes horribly wrong, and make sure you have a backup to hand.)
