Cub Cadet was started by a tractor company by the name ofInternational Harvestor back in 1960 at the Shed in Gloria Drive,Kentucky. It was also the same location that the Cub Lo-Boy wasproduced. They made a small tractor that, in the start, they namedCub'ette'. Then somewhere along the way they changed it to CubCadet. This first 'riding tractor' was called the Original. theymade this tractor as they're competition with wheel horse and allthe rest back at that time. Cub Cadet is the first and only 'ridingtractor' with a direct drive from the engine to the rear end with asolid driveshaft. no belts or pullys. This made for a strong andslip free drive. In my opinion, Cub Cadets are the strongest,longest lasting tractor that i have ever owned. you just have tofind a Cub from before 1981, that's before MTD purchased Cub Cadetfrom International Harvestor. After 1981, MTD redesigned a fewthings to make the tractor 'better' and more 'user friendly' and'quieter', but basicly they just ruined the name in my opinion.Anyway, i know I've probubly gave you more information that youasked for, but, i just love these little tractors, but, only theones proudly displaying the International Harvestor label.
