Devin Townsend Project is a Canadian band, consisting of Devin Townsend and a changing lineup of musicians. Formed in 2008, after Townsend went through a series of major life changes, which included a giving up drugs smoking and drinking, they released their debut album, ‘Ki’ in 2009, followed by ‘Addicted’ in 2009, ‘Deconstruction’ and ‘Ghost’ in 2011. ‘Epicloud’ was released in 2012 and ‘Z²’ in 2014. Their latest album, ‘Transcendence’,was released in September 2016. The band have headlined their own shows and tours across North America and the UK, including a show at London’s Royal Albert Hall in April 2015. Devin Townsend Project have lined-up UK shows for March in support of 'Transcendence', as part of a wider European tour, as well as shows in Australia and New Zealand in May and Dublin and Belfast in June. Over the course of Devin Townsend’s storied career, a single constant has persevered: change. As far back as Steve Vai’s Sex & Religion, which Townsend fronted, to 2001’s landmark full-length Terria to the multi-instrumentalist’s country rock outfit Casualties of Cool, the Canadian isn’t too interested in keeping an even musical keel.
To understand why Townsend, consciously and subconsciously, favours change is to know the man and his music today. After disbanding the Devin Townsend Project earlier this year, Devin is now fully focused on this new turn in his career, having recently completed a sold-out acoustic tour.
The UK Guitar Show & London Bass Guitar Show 2019 takes place on 21-22 September 2019 at the Business Design Centre, London. Early bird tickets are still on sale until midnight on 29 June, so now’s the time to buy.
