Left 4 Dead DLC expansion pack Crash Course releases on September 29, 2009

Left 4 Dead: Crash Course has a release date worldwide of September 29th on the PC (free) and the Xbox 360 ($7).

Crash Course delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms, and bridges the gap between the end of the “No Mercy” campaign and the beginning of “Death Toll” in the original game.

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of Crash Course is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game’s existing Versus campaigns.

A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.

Left 4 Dead is an action horror game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 50 industry awards from outlets around the world and sold almost 3 million copies worldwide.

Fans of Left 4 Dead will be happy, as Valve has announced that an expansion pack, dubbed the 'Survival Pack', will be released this Spring, Kotaku reports.

The expansion pack will bring a wealth of new content, including a new multiplayer game mode named Survival, and two entire campaign scenarios for use in Versus mode. So far, it is not known what these will be, nor what the new Survival mode will entail.

Perhaps the biggest news of all is the announcement of a Left 4 Dead Source SDK, for PC. This is exactly what it seems; users will be able to build and distribute Left 4 Dead maps, for use by other players or themselves. Gabe Newell, President and Co-Founder of Valve has stated, 'With Half-Life and Counter-Strike, and more recently Team Fortress 2, we've learned that we're no longer making stand-alone games but creating entertainment services. With Left 4 Dead we're extending that tradition by creating additional gameplay and releasing our internal tools to aspiring developers so they may also create and distribute new Left 4 Dead experiences.'

Alongside the expansion, a 'Critic's Choice Edition' of Left 4 Dead will be released which will include the new content, for those yet to have purchased Left 4 Dead.
